For Test Arena Kongsberg - City&Lab the technology is not a goal in itself, but seen as a tool to develop sustainable mobility.

The Kongsberg company Applied Autonomy nominated Top 25 most innovative startups in the Nordic countries

For nine years, the Nordic Cleantech Open competition has acted as a monitor for the innovation trends in cleantech solutions that will contribute to a future with a low carbon footprint. A total of 140 candidates from the Nordic and Baltic countries have been registered for the competition. The 25 most innovative, promising and scalable companies are nominated. They are nominated by a jury of 51 international experts.

Three years have passed since we started the initiative at City&Lab for autonomous transport in cities, and Kongsberg became a partner in The Sohjoa Baltic project. We have demonstrated, piloted and developed opportunities for self-driving first-last mile minibus transport.

Brakar AS now runs the world's most advanced route for autonomous bus transport, in ordinary scheduled operations in Kongsberg. The key to this success is the collaboration between the players, first and foremost The Kongsberg municipality, The Norwegian Public Roads Administration, The technology industry in Kongsberg by Applied Autonomy, The Viken County, ITS-Norway, the University of Southeast Norway, the PTA Brakar and the PTO VY.

On January 23, there was a seminar in Kongsberg that marked the kick-off for the next phase of development, driving completely without a host on board. The autonomous minibus drove without anyone aboard at the Church Square, communicated with traffic lights, stopped at bus stops and stopped for unforeseen obstacles. The demonstration of the technology was very successful and went exactly as planned.

The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the environment. Activities in City&Lab are especially rooted in goals 8, 9, 11 and 13.
